About Us – Racial Experience Lab Limited
Racial Experience Lab makes visible the often hidden struggles of Black and Ethnically Diverse Groups in workplaces and communities. We create spaces where experiences of racism, exclusion, and other intersecting forms of discrimination are heard and valued. Through courses, coaching, webinars, workshops and reflective practices, we support individuals in navigating challenges, while helping organisations foster cultures of inclusivity, fairness, and unity for all, irrespective of race.
Racial Experience Lab was founded on Dr Yvonne Williams’ doctoral thesis The Black Face with an Invisible White Mask. Her research explored the psychological impact of experiencing systemic racism through the intergenerational forms of trauma that manifest for many. Using heuristic inquiry; a process of self-reflection, storytelling, and discovery, Dr Williams uncovered not only her own survival journey but also the shared truths of others.
“Heuristic inquiry doesn’t just study liberation; it becomes it.” – Dr Yvonne Williams
From this process, three life changing principles emerged: Power, Freedom, and Control. Before her PhD, Dr Williams avoided racial discourse, but when issues of race surfaced during her fieldwork and on her university campus, being racial avoidant was no longer an option.
