Forms Of Discrimination

Anti-Blackness

Systemic racism is a deeply rooted form of inequality that has historically targeted and dehumanised Black people. One example is seen in Eurocentric school curricula, which often overlook or underrepresent Black cultural, economic, and scientific achievements from centuries past, reinforcing incomplete narratives about history and contribution.

Islamophobia

Driven by fear and misunderstanding, Islamophobia contributes to exclusion and profiling, against Muslim communities. At the Racial Experience Lab, we address these challenges by fostering understanding and allowing their voices to be heard.

Racial Gaslighting

Gaslighting is a manipulative tactic that seeks to silence or dismiss the reality of racism. In today’s so-called ‘post-racial’ climate, it often appears in remarks such as “Why do you always focus on race?”, “Aren’t you tired of being so woke?”, or “Everyone in history has been a slave before”, comments that serve to shut down meaningful discussion about race.

Xenophobia

A hostility towards migrants, refugees and those seen as outsiders. In today’s rising far right climate, such a process fuels exclusion, scapegoating and a denial of belonging for those affected.

Colourism

A discrimination that privileges lighter skin while disadvantaging darker skin. It operates within and outside communities of colour, reinforcing racist hierarchies and damaging self-worth. We confront colourism by affirming the beauty, dignity, and humanity of all BIPOC people.
